A number of training opportunities are available to Bowie VFD members:

MFRI

The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute offers an extensive schedule of classes in the Southern Maryland Region, which includes Prince George's County. Please see a station officer or your station chief to register for a class.

Volunteer Recruit School

Students must complete Volunteer Recruit Training online followed by hands on / in station checklists. Students can begin VRS once they are issued County email and Traget Solutions Training access.

Schedule a Fit Test

Annual fit tests can be scheduled using the online fit testing scheduler.

Patient Refusal Training

Operational members -- firefighters and EMTs -- are required to complete online patient refusal training.

Online Training

  • All new members must complete two modules of Incident Command System (ICS) training before they attend Volunteer Recruit School. The courses can be taken online through FEMA's website, and both are required: IS-100 (Introduction to Incident Command System) and IS-700 (NIMS An Introduction). Officers also should complete the IS-200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents) and IS-800 (National Response Framework, An Introduction) classes.
